Vitara Motor Upgrade: Transforming a Suzuki Vitara SV420 with a 2.7L H27A Engine Swap
Upgrading a Suzuki Vitara is a popular path for 4WD enthusiasts wanting more power, torque, and capability. Among the most impressive transformations is the Vitara Motor Upgrade from the standard SV420 2.0‑litre J20A engine to the larger and more powerful H27A 2.7‑litre V6 sourced from the Grand Vitara XL‑7.
This particular build was one of our most technically challenging—but the end result was a standout SWB Vitara with serious performance gains.
The Breakdown
The conversion proved to be one of our more complex builds, beginning with the complete removal of the original engine, gearbox and wiring harness, which required taking out the entire dashboard for full access. The major challenge emerged during the integration phase, where we needed to adapt a Type 1 SV620 wiring harness and ECU to the Type 2 SV420, a process that demanded extensive electrical modification and troubleshooting. The final setup utilised the H27A engine along with the SV620 gearbox, injection manifold, throttle body and injectors, supported by modified H25A extractors.
The end result on this 4WD Partshop custom work job was a very impressive SWB Vitara.
